solcan™ 2101 Solar Thermal Collector

At solcan™, we have been manufacturing solar thermal collectors for over 40 years! Our experience has contributed to an evolution in our solar technology, and we are proud to offer reliable, high-quality, Canadian-made solar solutions.

Our flat-plate collectors are glazed with low-iron tempered glass held in place with black silicone sealant and have been tested for use in closed-loop, drainback, and thermosiphon systems. Copper fins with integral copper tubes run between internal copper manifolds (a.k.a. headers). The copper fins have a specialized black chrome coating to maximize energy absorption from the sun. The collector box is made of aluminum and insulated with polyisocyanurate foam board.

We can design, test, and manufacture custom solar collectors upon request, making us a great choice for unique systems or special architectural requirements. If you like, you can also order a custom frame or pattern for your collectors!

Controller & Monitoring Software

solcan™ offers real-time energy monitoring software for new and existing solar systems. System monitoring easily provides the owner with information on how the system is performing and sends them, as well as us, an alert if there are any issues.

For years, solcan™ has used RESOL® products as controls in our solar thermal systems. RESOL® provides reliability and ease of use for installers and customers alike, and after trying and testing various different solar thermal system monitoring options over our 40 years, we highly recommend RESOL®’s monitoring software paired with their solar controllers.

Tanks

solcan™ uses two main types of solar storage tanks (alternates can be discussed based on unique system needs).

Tank-in-Tank: these tanks act as heat exchangers by housing the solar fluid (i.e. propylene glycol) in the space between the outer tank and the smaller tank within it. The hot solar fluid surrounds the inner tank, heating its contents.

Triangle Tube Tanks: in these tanks, the hot solar fluid flows through an internal coil, heating the fluid surrounding the coil in the storage tank.
